Bio
Born in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, on the southeast side, Desney's artistic journey began amid the urban tapestry of her childhood. At the tender age of six, she discovered her calling through the simple yet profound act of drawing and writing poetry. These creative outlets became her way to capture the kaleidoscope of the world around her, marking the dawn of a lifelong passion.
Desney's formal artistic education includes a Multimedia certification from Harold Washington College and an art therapy certification, complemented by twelve years of creative writing. Her artistic approach is deeply intertwined with her personal healing journey, where she rediscovered the power of visual and poetic expression as a means to process complex emotions and thoughts.
The essence of Desney's work lies in her exploration of mental and emotional healing. She finds inspiration in the intimate paths of self-discovery and recovery, choosing to communicate through collages. For Desney, collages offer a unique platform to articulate her thoughts, creating visual narratives that serve as emotional diaries. Her creative process begins with introspection, where she identifies her feelings and the message she wishes to convey. She then selects visual symbols—flowers, animals, colors—that serve as metaphors within her compositions. Her art is both a personal journey and an invitation for viewers to embark on their own voyage of healing.
Desney's technique evolved through her quest to express herself after navigating deeply impactful therapy sessions. Her art stands out as a visual roadmap to healing, offering solace and insight to those who encounter it. Among her cherished projects, "The Red of My Hair" holds a special place, symbolizing her resilience and the renewed life she embraces after overcoming significant trauma.
Currently exhibiting at the Artist on the 9 Gallery on Chicago's southeast side, Desney's work has been described as beautiful and thought-provoking, evoking a sense of release and reflection in its audience. Her art has offered others a mirror, allowing them to see their own healing journeys within her creations.
Beyond the canvas, Desney finds joy in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and dancing, activities that mirror the discipline and expressive freedom inherent in her artistic practice. By day, she serves as an Accounting Specialist at a property management company, a role that contrasts yet coexists with her artistic endeavors.
Desney envisions a future where her Healing Prints reach a global audience, aspiring to provide comfort and guidance through art on a full-time basis. She believes in the transformative role of art in society, as a catalyst for healing and self-understanding, fostering connections that transcend the visual medium.
